Sunday, October 13, 2002 woo hoo! yesterday was sooo fun! it was the best melee show by far! no, actually, maybe not. I think the best show was when I saw them play for the first time at Allison's old house and I saw Chris Chron sing Love Shack and Boys and Girls by Blur? But i was a goood show spoiled by NOTHING! Ok, so let's start at the beginning...i got there at 6:30....our plan of sneaking me in and hiding me under the merch table could not be executed. those damn chain reaction guys were being an ass about watching who had ristbands. so i waited outside with some people hoping to get in later when everything got settled in. Dude, there were sooo many people last night. most of which were girls...young girls....teeny bopper girls all here to see robert. Dood, i heard that there were girls RUNNING in to get in front of the stage. How could I miss that?! That would've been so funny. I also heard that there were people at Chain at 2 pm! Is that crazy or what?!?! Anyways, I waited outside for a bit and found that they were selling a few more tickets so I managed to get myself a ticket and got in just in time for the show. First up was Everybody Else. Jasmine and her friend (whom i've met before but could not remember her name) were merch girls so i got a free button. Score! I liked the band, they were pretty good. Since the whole crowd was a bunch of teeny bopper girls, everytime the guys from Everybody Else walked by on stage to get his guitar or equipment, all the girls would start screaming. Next up was Melee. They rocked as usual. They played a lot of their newer songs. I'm starting to like their new songs...it just grows on you. Jenn, Forrest and I ran over to the side/backstage to take pictures. We were like Melee's camera crew. Hahaha. So I have a whole bunch of pictures of them from behind...heehee if you know what I mean, just kidding. Too bad they did not play Rainforest Mama so I could not see how to play it. But I saw part of Francesca and Dedicated to You....good deal. After that, while Rooney was setting up, we sold a whole bunch of Melee merch. There is a new t-shirt that Allison designed. It's a picture of a horseshoe on a maroon t-shirt. It's a cool shirt. At the end of the show, we sold even more. That was because most of the girls were all crammed in front of the stage, they probably couldn't get out until then. Probably the most merch sold.. 800 bucks on merch alone. Rooney played and they were good. We were kind of laughing about how Robert and another band member, whose name I do not know, were wearing their own shirts. I think their set list was the same as always. Starting off with Sorry Sorry (I think the only song that I know) Anyways, they finished, and everyone was chanting 'Rooney, Rooney, Rooney' Rooney then came back on stage for an encore and played either 2 or 3 more songs. Oh yeh, I saw Kevin Ridel again. It was a mad rush at the end for merch. Oh, I heard that before the show, some girls had come by and asked what kind of music Melee played and then they walked away. They then came right back and bought merch. Without even hearing them play! Just because Rooney didn't have much merch. They just wanted to spend money. Crazy! i guess it's good for Melee, but still. Don't buy merch until you at least hear the band! C'mon now. Afterwards we hung out in front as usual waiting for the guys to pack up. But this time there were still so many people in front getting things signed and pictures taken. Normally it's just band people and friends waiting for everyone to pack up. Dude, so many teeny boppers. Got on my nerve. I even saw one girl go up to Chris and she was all shy and dancing around and was like, 'Oh my God oh my God, will you sign this for me?' We then went to an afterparty and watched the rough cut version of the Melee music video for Francesca and it was sooo funny. It was the coolest thing. Everyone was cracking up. Jenn, Osako, Allison and I left early. I gave Osako (she's this really sweet little Japanese girl who came her for school) a ride home over by Huntington Beach. She was telling me how her new roommate is probably gay. Funny story, but you had to be there. Anyways, I think that's it. In conclusion, last night was a HELLA fun night! Maybe because there are sooo many nice and friendly people that I've met through Jenn and makes OC so much better.
